Lights Out at Times Square

Algorand wanted to demonstrate, for a global audience, how crypto can be climate-conscious. On Earth Day 2022, we took over Times Square to shed light on Algorand’s carbon-negative blockchain.

We flooded the iconic intersection with 47 screens of Algorand green before fading them to black. The blackout saved 23.4 billion joules of energy, and educated the audience on how much further that power goes on Algorand’s ledger.

Thanks to content creation and targeted amplification, we made over 40 million impressions with our blackout. Throughout the rest of April, Algorand’s total social reach received millions of impressions. They saw a 71% increase in brand mentions during activation week and increased positive brand sentiment.
